Tips For Grilling The Perfect Steak!

There’s nothing like the taste of a perfectly grilled steak. Steaks can be intimidating to grill, but with a little practice, you’ll be able to create the perfect steak every time. In this post, I’ll give you some tips for grilling steaks perfectly. I’ll also share my favorite recipes for grilled steaks. So get ready to fire up the grill and get cooking!

The Best Cuts Of Steak For Grilling!

When it comes to grilling steak, you want to choose a cut that is going to be flavorful and tender. Now, I am not going to get too technical here, but there are a few cuts of steak that are better for grilling than others. Here are some of the best cuts of steak for grilling:

1.      Ribeye:

This is my personal favorite cut of steak for grilling. It’s a little pricier than some other cuts, but it’s worth it. The ribeye is a very flavorful steak with a good amount of marbling. This marbling helps to keep the steak juicy and tender. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate the ribeye a 9 in terms of flavor and tenderness.

2.      Porterhouse:

This is another great option for grilling. Porterhouse steaks are actually two steaks in one – the strip steak and the filet mignon. This makes for a very tender and flavorful steak. You can usually find porterhouse steaks at your local butcher or grocery store. It’s a bit of a splurge, though it’s worth it!

3.      T-Bone:

The T-bone is equal to the Porterhouse, but it doesn’t have as much of the filet mignon. It’s still a very tasty steak, though! You will want to look for a T-bone that has a good amount of marbling.

4.      Strip Steak:

It also known as a New York strip steak; this is a very popular cut of steak for grilling. It’s a little less tender than some other cuts, but it’s still very flavorful. Some people find that strip steaks are a little too chewy, so if you’re looking for a tender steak, you might want to go with something else.

5.      Filet Mignon:

This is the tenderest cut of steak, making it a great choice for grilling. It’s also one of the more costly cuts, so keep that in mind when you’re choosing your steak. While the filet mignon is a great choice for grilling, it doesn’t have a lot of flavors. As long as you’re looking for a steak that is both tender and flavorful, you might want to choose a different cut.

6.      Flank Steak:

It is a leaner cut of steak that is very flavorful. It’s a great option if you’re looking to save some money on your steak dinner. Just be sure any doubt not to overcook it, as it can become tough.

7.      Skirt Steak:

Skirt steak is another flavorful but less expensive option for grilling. It’s a great choice if you’re looking to feed a crowd on a budget. You don’t want to overcook this steak, either, as it can become tough.

8.      Hanger Steak:

This is a lesser-known cut of steak, but it’s definitely one to try if you’re looking for something new. Hanger steak is very flavorful and tender, making it a great choice for grilling.

How To Season Your Steak For The Perfect Flavor?

Now that you’ve chosen your steak, it’s time to season it. There’re a few different ways you can season your steak. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular methods.

1.      Salt:

One of the easiest and most effective modes to season your steak is with salt. I like to use kosher salt, but you can use whatever type of salt you have on hand. Just be sure not to exaggerate it, as too much salt can make your steak taste salty.

2.      Pepper:

Pepper is another great way to season your steak. It’s best to use freshly ground black pepper, but you can use pre-ground pepper if that’s all you have. The key is to not exaggerate it, as too much pepper can make your steak taste spicy.

3.      Garlic:

As long as you are looking a little more flavor, garlic is a great option. You can either minced garlic or garlic powder. I prefer using fresh garlic, but garlic powder will work in a pinch. Just be sure not to utilize too much, as garlic can easily overpower the flavor of your steak.

4.      Onion:

Like garlic, onion is a great way to add some additional flavor to your steak. You can either use onion powder or fresh onions. If you’re using fresh onions, I recommend grating them, so they don’t overpower the flavor of your steak.

5.      Herbs:

Fresh herbs are a wonderful way to count some flavor to your steak. Some of my favorites include rosemary, thyme, and oregano. You can either use new or dried herbs. If you’re using fresh herbs, I recommend chopping them up. It’s also a good idea to add them towards the end of cooking, so they don’t get burned.

6.      Spices:

If you’re on the lookout a little bit of a kick, spices are a great way to go. I like to use smoked paprika, chili powder, and cumin. Make sure you don’t use too much, as spices can easily make your steak taste spicy.

7.      Olive Oil:

One of the best ways to confirm that your steak is flavorful is to marinate it in olive oil. I like to add some garlic and herbs to my olive oil before marinating my steak. This helps to infuse the flavors into the meat. As a general rule, you should marinate your steak for at least 30 minutes, but no more than 2 hours.

8.      Butter:

Butter is another great way to add flavor to your steak. I like to put a pat of butter on top of my steak when I grill it. It enables to keep the steak moist and adds a delicious buttery flavor.

Grilling Tips For A Perfectly Cooked Steak!

Now that you’ve chosen your steak and seasoned it, it’s time to start grilling! Here are some tips to help you grill the perfect steak.

1.      Preheat The Grill:

One of the most important things you can do when grilling a steak is to preheat the grill. This’ll help to ensure that your steak cooks evenly. In general, you should preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

2.      Brush The Grill:

Before you add your steak to the grill, be sure to brush it with oil. It prevents the steak from sticking to the grill and ensures that it cooks evenly. On a gas grill, you can use a paper towel to brush the oil onto the grates. On a charcoal grill, you can dip a wad of paper towel in oil and then use tongs to rub it onto the grates.

3.      Don’t Press Down On The Steak:

It can be tempting to press down on the steak while it’s cooking, but resist the urge! Pressing down on the steak will cause it to lose its juices, making it dry and tough. For the best results, let the steak cook without touching it.

4.      Flip The Steak Only Once:

Another common error people make when grilling a steak is flipping it too often. Flipping the steak multiple times will cause it to lose its juices and become dry. It’s best to flip the steak only once, about halfway through cooking.

5.      Use Tongs To Flip The Steak:

When flipping the steak, be sure to use tongs. It stops the steak from losing its juices. Some people like to use a spatula, but I find that tongs work best.

6.      Let The Steak Leave Before Cutting Into It:

Once the steak is cooked, resist the urge to cut into it right away! Letting the steak rest for 3-5 minutes will allow the juices to redistribute, making it more flavorful and delicious.

And there you have it! Just remember to preheat the grill, brush it with oil, don’t press down on the steak, flip it only once, use tongs to flip it, and let it rest before cutting into it. Follow these tips, and you’re sure to grill a delicious steak that your family and friends will love!
